Von Christchurch flogen wir am 26. Juli nach Nadi, Fidschi. Wir bleiben die ersten Tage auf der Hauptinsel und schauten uns Nadi an. Hier ist es ganz entspannt, die Stadt ist bunt und voller sehr herzlicher Menschen. Wir besuchten einen Buddhistischen Tempel und probierten viel leckeres Essen auf dem Bull Festival und in kleinen Shops in der Innenstadt. So viel besser als Hostel Essen :) Obwohl unser Hostel, das Bamboo, schon ganz nett war. Kult in Fidschi bei Backpackern war das Hostel direkt am Strand und hatte eine ganz relaxte Atmosphäre. Alles hier läuft in Fidschi Zeit, also alles ganz langsam und gemächlich. Die Hauptinsel bietet in Nadi jetzt keine Traumstrände, aber wir haben es sehr genossen einfach mal nur nichts tun zu müssen.
We flew on the 26. Juli from Christchurch into Nadi, Fiji. We stayed a few days on the main island. Nadi is a beautiful vibrant and colorful city with really nice and warmhearted people. We had a look at a temple and sampled a lot of great food in the city. So much better than hostel food! We stayed at the cult backpacker Bamboo directly at the beach. It had a very lovely laid back atmosphere. Everything works in Fiji time: very slow and relaxed. The main island does not offer very nice postcard beaches, but we were so happy to do nothing at all.

Von Nadi fuhren wir mit einem Schiff in die Yasawa Inselgruppe. Nach drei Stunden kamen wir im Barefoot Manta Resort an. Die Insel ist ganz klein und es gibt nur dieses kleinen Resort im Ökostil für Backpacker mit etwas mehr Geld oder Leuten, die keine Tausende für die Luxusreports in den Yasawas ausgeben wollen. Wir hatten Glück und bekamen das schönste Zimmer im ganzen Resort, ein Safarizelt mit eigenem kleinen Strand direkt zum Sonnenuntergang ausgerichtet. Ja und welche Kulisse würde sich besser eignen für einen Heiratsantrag? Das dachte sich wohl auch Arvin und stellte mir an unserem zweiten Abend bei Sonnenuntergang auf einer kleinen Bank ohne eine andere Menschenseele die schönste Frage auf der Welt. (Mein quitschiges Ja war dann etwas weniger romantisch ;) ) Wir verbrachten dann sowas wie kleine Verlobungsflitterwochen in Fidschi und es hätte schöner nicht sein können. Auf Barefoot Manta hatten wir Gelegenheit zweimal mit Mantas zu schnorcheln, einfach eine wahnsinns Erfahrung. Die Mantas die wir gesehen haben waren zwischen zwei und drei Meter groß und so elegant!
Zudem sind wir mehrmals tauchen gegangen, haben Haie, Muränen, Barracudas und ganz viele schöne bunte kleine Fische gesehen. Wir sind auch auf unseren ersten Wracktauchgang gegangen, ein versunkenes kleineres Schiff in der Nähe des Resorts. Das Essen war toll, die Cocktails waren toll, alles war perfekt. Danke Arvin :)
From Nadi we took a ship into the Yasawa Islands. We landed on Barefoot Manta Island which is really small and only has the little resort on it. We were lucky and had the best room, a safari style tent directly at sunset beach. What better place for a marriage proposal? Thats what Arvin must have thought. On our second evening, on our small bench watching the sunset he asked me if I want to marry him. We spent lovely days in Fiji enjoying a little pre honeymoon. :) At Barefoot we had the opportunity to snorkel twice with manta rays. They were between two and three meters wide and so elegant!
We also went on a few dive trips and saw a shark, a moray eel, a Barracuda and so many small little colorful fish. We also went on our first wreck dive, which was so much fun. Everything was perfect, the food, the cocktails and everything else! Thank you Arvin!

After we left Barefoot we took the ship again and drove two further hours into the Yasawas into the Blue Lagoon. Here we stayed two nights at the Nanuya Island resort. Again: beautiful! We had a small hut overlooking the entire Blue Lagoon. We went snorkeling and saw another shark and so many cute fish. And the food, so good. After a month on the road in New Zealand, a fresh caught fish is really nice.

Fidschi war alles und noch viel mehr, als das, was wir uns erhofft hatten. Es war einfach überall noch viel schöner, alls wir dachten. Nadi ist zwar kein Urlaubstraum wenn man weißen Strand möchte, aber um die Menschen zu erleben war es einfach schön. Hätten wir mehr Zeit gehabt hätten wir auch noch mehr Ausflüge machen können. Die Überlandbusse waren so billig und alles war wirklich gut ausgeschildert. Egal wen man nach Hilfe fragt, alle geben dir Auskunft und wir haben uns pudelwohl gefühlt. Die Yasawas sind einfach nur wunderschön. Wenn man etwas weniger Budget zur Verfügung hat, gibt es trotzdem massig Inseln mit Schafsälen, sodass es einfach ein Backpackertraum ist nach Fidschi zu kommen.
Fiji was way better than we hoped it would be. It was way more beautiful than I thought it would be. Nadi is not the place to go if you want white picture perfect beaches, but a great place to meet the Fiji people. If we would have had more time we would have gone on a few more trips. Everything is easily reached by bus. If you are lost you can ask anybody. If you do not have that much money, Fiji is still for you. There are so many cheaper backpacker resorts in the Yasawas, that make Fiji a backpackers dream!
